Some facts about us...
Things you may not know about The Wellington Arms, in no particular order....
At The Wellington Arms we use only organic milk in the kitchen & in the bar.
We have 90 free-range, rare breed & rescue hens,
producing eggs for the kitchen & for sale on the bar.
Wm Vicars & Son supply our meat, a family butcher established in Reading in 1886.
They guarantee traceability from farm to table.
We only use Murray River Pink Salt Flakes:
an Australian salt produced to assist the Murray-Darling salinity problem.
We pay to recycle everything where possible; glass, cardboard, tins & plastic.
Vegetable peelings are either composted or fed to the chickens for tea.
Our ice cream is made by the Gosden family in Sherfield-on-Loddon,
using cream from their herd of Jersey cows.
Our bread is baked to our recipe by Alec our craft baker.
As you would expect, all our puddings are made here in the kitchen. We are very conscious of slow food & food miles: Hence wherever possible, we use organic English produce or vegetables that have been home-grown.
The herbs used for garnish & cooking are grown in our herb garden
next to the kitchen door.
We have 7 Langstroth beehives, containing, on a good day in the height of summer,
1.5 million bees.
Our fish is delivered three times a week from Brixham by our fishmonger, Andrew North.
Our coffee mugs are hand painted for us by Hattie of Browninghill Brushes.
The Wellington Arms can comfortably seat 30 people & is available for private functions.
Husk teas, exclusive to The Wellington Arms, are a blend of herbal teas from Australia
that are free from caffeine, tannic acid & all artificial additives.
All our fat chips are scrubbed, peeled & chipped by us.
Jason is a gold medal winner for Australia in the Culinary Olympics.
Our fruit sorbets are made here, using only organic fruit puree and sugar syrup.
A discretionary 10% gratuity is added to your bill, which is shared equally
amongst the restaurant staff.
Our friends at Henwood Farm in Ashford Hill, provide us daily with almost
organic produce such as tomatoes, pumpkin flowers, beans, lettuce,
potatoes, beetroot & carrots.
Aesop from Melbourne, Australia produce our botanical hand soap
& hand cream of choice: another exclusive to The Wellington Arms.
We prepare food daily in small quantities,
which enables us to change parts of the menu regularly.
